Sailing as life

When a sail is set correctly, most of the vectors point where the boat is going, toward the goal. But you cannot remove the side vectors that create drift completely. There will always be something that pulls you aside, knocks you off course or makes the boat heel.

And it is like life.

There is no perfect sail setting. You always sacrifice something. Around you there is noise, doubt, other people's expectations, circumstances. Side vectors. You can't do without them.

But if the main direction is set, if most of the energy goes toward the goal, you still move.

So don't be upset about drift. It will be there. The question is not how to eliminate heel and drift.

It is how to set the sail so that most vectors lead where you want to arrive. And then you will get there.
